Abstract
The sucker-rod pump as used in oil wells is treated as a problem in the longitudinal vibration of bars. Solutions are obtained for the forces and motions at both ends of the rod string, thus giving formulas for the calculation of polished-rod load and plunger travel. The results of the calculations are compared with test results.
