The 2005 European Fuel Cell Technology & Applications is the first of a series of events of the EFC organization. EFC originates from the worldwide need of grouping together academia, industry, and governmental representatives involved in fuel cell development.
In order to satisfy this necessity, the University of Perugia, the Italian Agency for the New Technologies and the Environment (ENEA), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) teamed together and realized the European Fuel Cell Technology & Applications Conference (EFC05) that took place in Rome on December 14–16, 2005.
About 500 attendees represented all the countries involved in fuel cell development: delegates from China, India, Japan, Korea, United States of America, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and most of the European countries took part in the event.
The European Commission, DG-RTD, and the main Italian Ministries endorsed the event.
40 members of the scientific committee selected all the technical contributions submitted, and contributed in organizing all the sessions. To them we offer our sincere gratitude.
Technical contributions were presented in 26 oral and three poster sessions. Selected papers are now presented in this special issue of the ASME Transaction Journal of Fuel Cell Science and Technology.
The efforts of all the authors and reviewers will surely help many scientists and researchers to broaden their knowledge and strengthen their capabilities in addressing current fuel cell issues.
The next edition of the EFC conference will take place in Rome in December 2007.
